Will’s career began in public accounting with Deloitte. After grueling 90-hour work weeks, he migrated into an assistant controllership role within the manufacturing industry. After all the hard work and years spent acquiring his Master of Accountancy and CPA designation, Will realized accounting wasn’t for him.
What he really enjoyed was getting a glimpse behind the curtain to see how businesses function at the highest level. He also relished solving problems. This led to a consulting path that focused on employee benefits.
Why benefits? Brokers are in business to solve a problem, but the industry has significant problems of its own. Employees have felt for years that their massive healthcare spending doesn’t even come close to matching the value they receive. At the heart of this disconnect are the brokers—brokers who are unable or perhaps unwilling to spend the extra time to find unique solutions for their clients.
Will committed to breaking the order-taker agent stereotype and instead created an atmosphere that feels carefully curated and designed with maximum satisfaction for both employee and employer in mind.
His goals became to 1) be the best in his field, 2) offer creative solutions with exciting outcomes, 3) stay on the leading edge of industry innovation, 4) diligently outwork the stereotypical broker, and 5) partner with other like-minded professionals in the industry for the greater good.
Will is already living out the first four points of this strategic initiative. However, it wasn’t until joining Mitigate Partners that he saw how to achieve that fifth and perhaps most critical endeavor. There is so much to learn and many creative paths to transparency and cost control in the market.
