Healthcare vs. Health Insurance – What is the difference?

June 15, 2023

Earlier this month, the Gasparilla Inn and Club held its annual Employee Benefit Education sessions where over 300 participants learned directly from healthcare professionals about the employer-sponsored plan and available options for participation.

What’s different about the above statement?  At first glance, maybe nothing.  But take another look.  Here’s some key differences from what you might expect:

  • Employee Health Education – Employees LEARNED about what their employer is doing to help with the most important part of their life – their personal health and well-being, and the health and well-being of their family.
  • Directly from healthcare professionals – That’s right. These sessions were led by actual practicing medical professionals and advisors, that included doctors, pharmacists, and program advisors – who actually see patients that participate in the employer-sponsored healthcare program.  Or more simply stated – employees learned the details directly from the source.
  • Available options – That’s not a typo. Gasparilla Inn employees have healthcare options, which includes a Direct Primary Care approach that saves the employer and the employee money.  Again, not a typo there either.  DPC participants pay ZERO out-of-pocket for a doctor’s appointment.
  • Healthcare when you need it – And forget about the worry of being able to afford it financially.  Because with Direct Primary Care (and other innovative programs), your out-of-pocket is minimal, and in many cases is ZERO.  That’s correct.  Employers who are in control can make decisions about their plan as compared to the insurers making the decisions for them.

See the difference?  Employer-built plans focus on healthcare, education, and program options.  Insurer-built plans focus on insurance and enrollment.  One approach focuses on the people.  The other approach focuses on efficiency and process.  There are other differences – too many to list.  Visionary employers across the nation are embracing this approach to healthcare, and most importantly, taking better care of their most important asset – their people.

And the results from employer-built plans?  All are good.  Some are great.  Cost savings are significant, often in millions of dollars saved by the employer.  Employees save money too, upwards of 25% or more on their premiums.  Other results include greater employee satisfaction and job productivity.  Most importantly, participants have access to medical professionals WHEN they need help the most.  Like the next day or sometimes even the same day.  Not several days or weeks or months later as with insurer-built plans.

The Gasparilla Inn and Club saw the difference and made a change about seven years ago.  You can too.  It’s time to think different about healthcare.  Contact an advisor today to learn how we can help you take control.
