Texas Public Policy Foundation hosted its 18th Annual Policy Orientation for the Texas Legislature in Austin, TX from January 21 – 24, 2020. We were honored to speak on the panel session on “Controlling Your Care: The Way Out of America’s Broken Health Insurance System” alongside Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst (head of HHS Texas on Senate side), Jamie Lagarde (CEO of Sedera Health) and moderated by David Balat (Director of the Right on Healthcare initiative with TX Public Policy Foundation).
We shared the wonderful story of DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Florida, and its courageous leaders that had the foresight to take things in a different direction and make a change. This model can be replicated across the country to help save rural healthcare as 450 hospitals across the U.S. are at risk of potential closure. Healthcare is local and we have to keep it that way.
