A year ago I had a kidney stone that forced me to seek relief at the emergency room. I was there for 3 hours, placed in a standard (not emergency) room (double occupancy): 1 urine test, 1 MRI, 1 Demerol cocktail, 2 party hats to pee in, 1 Hydrocodone prescription, then sent on my way. They charged me $14,953 (insurance). Seven months later I had a recurrence and went to the “quick care” center, owned by the same hospital, and received 1 prescription of Hydrocodone, 1 prescription for a kidney dilator to pass the stone, then sent on my way.
